Children of the State
Benjamin Disraeli once said: ‘a nation, a community, is best judged by the way it treats its most marginal children’.
In Victoria over 5,000 children, who for a range of reasons cannot live with their parents, live in State care. They are known in the system as the Out of Home Care Children. They live in statutory arranged conditions with the relatives (usually grandparents), foster carers, or, for those unable or unsuitable for those options, in residential care.
These are the children that we are committed to support. There are many ways that our everyday community can assist. Your involvement will help us to enhance their lives.
Welcome a young person in need
The children that Tee-Up for Kids has special concerns for are those who, for many reasons, find themselves unable to live with family for various periods of time. Issues such as abuse, neglect, abandonment, incarceration, or, separation due to death or illness, can leave these children without the stability and care that is required when a child is not loved, not “special” in the eyes of an adult.
Not having family is one thing, not having a supportive community for a kid as he or she grows, is something that should never happen. Imagine standing at the front gate of your home, but, not feeling you belong in a neighbourhood or community.
We all have a role in allowing these young people to feel the generosity and warmth of support from the many organisations, clubs, activities and programs that make up a community.
Our aim at Tee-Up for Kids is to help make the linkages that allow and support our children-in-care to enjoy the benefits of the normal but wonderful opportunities that the broader community offers.
We don’t need experts, just real people.
The Tee Up for Kids Foundation is seeking sporting, social and cultural organisations that will open their doors and welcome these kids into their circle. The Foundation does not give monies to individuals but the program (if required) will reimburse organisations for any out of pocket expenses. For formation on how to become a program partner contact the Foundation.
